I spotted what I think was my first mountain lion while hunting last weekend. We had corned a road and I could see the hogs eating from pretty far off as I was making my approach I noticed something in the road between myself and the sounder. It was moving slowly towards the hogs. When I stopped to get a better look it sat down and looked back at me. Then it stood and walked off the road into the high grass. It was as long as the road was wide (single Lane ranch dirt road). Its only the second one Ive ever seen and the first while hunting. It happened so fast I did not realise what it was until it was gone.

Cool huh?

Back in 'the day' I saw one below Buchannan Dam. It was across the river and came out of the brush, sauntered down the rip-rap, got a drink, turned and went back up and into the brush. I was about 10 yr old and at 65 the memory of how magnificent it was has not diminished after all these years.

Awesome Huey!! Too bad you weren't filming at the time.

Dave

I was hunting on a really small 20 acre plot one night and heard mountain lion or couger making that loud shreaking noise, it was pretty erie and it was very close. The land owner confirmed earlier in the day that there was a big cat that would come through the property fairly often and encouraged us to take a shot if we had the chance. I sure would have loved to have seen it, but hearing it was pretty spooky.

It's been 35 years since I have seen a big cat. Like VTDW said, the memory has not diminished. Even today, I can spook myself in the woods by thinking about it.

We have mountain lions pass through a couple times a year. My father & mother in law have seen them along with some fence workers. My wife & I haven't yet. Must be nice to be retired! In fact, father in law just saw one yesterday morning. We went out last night to hunt & thought we might see or hear it. Didn't. My wife got a 120lb sow that we tied up in a tree & put a camera on hoping to get a pic of him. Last years was a chocolate colored dark one but this years was just brownish he said. Some people in the area say they have also seen black ones. Went out to check the pig thiis morning & nothing. I hope we can get a pic!

That would be too cool Robert! I have some cool pics of coy dogs, dogs with collars and one of a bobcat carrying a squirrel but the head and squirrel are partially obscured by a feeder leg. I have one camera watching a road and get lots of coyote and bobcat pics but no lion...yet
