I have owned 2 other SKS rifles in the past that I sold or traded for various reasons. Yesterday I had a friend ask if I was interested in his Chinese SKS. It had some rust on the barrel and action and was still very shootable for a beater/truck rifle. I offered him $75 and he took it. I plan on knocking the rust off with steel wool and I have some duracoat left over from a Rem 700 I refurbished. Should turn out nice.

The past 2 SKS rifles that I owned both had N-Star compact scopes which I thought were complete junk, but I used them anyway. Both rifles also had the mounts built into the dust cover and both had some play, which I didnt like at all. Of the 2 rifles, only one held zero pretty well........the other didn't at all. Probably 1 ft groups at 100 yards. My question is this, is there any good reliable sight or optics options out there for the sks? I'm really not wanting to spend a lot on this setup, just want something for daytime and night use that will keep me on hogs within 100 yards tops. Any suggestions?

Thats a good buy when you figure out the scope problem let me know,I have one with a n star scope on it mounted on the cover, somebody said to attach that cover with something like glue jb or weld its not any where like accurate like it is now.A lot better off with the open sights,I can't stand a rifle that don't shoot where i aim it.Now long time ago I used a red laser pointer on an sks and it was nasty at 50 yards, put the dot on what you wanted to hit pull the trigger and watch it get hit.Never tried to kill a hot with a red laser I hear they will leave the country when the dot appears.Good luck

Read the reviews ? Seems the quality might be risky.

Yep, the reviews pretty much stink. Wonder about a scout scope mount setup with long eye relief scope?

Seems I recall seeing a mount at one time that attached to the existing rear sight base,
after removing the rear sight. That mount would allow a long eye relief type of
scope to be used, or a dot sight.

Do you know if they are pretty solid? The only scout rail I have ever used was on a Mosin Nagant, and that thing was pretty unstable. I'll do some searching for one for an sks. If it mounts the same as the Mosin, I will stear clear.

No, can't say that it is, but figured it might be better than most of the top cover
set ups you see.

This one looks pretty stable.

Might be pretty cool with a reflex sight.
