I just picked up a used Model 58 in .41 Magnum. It was made in late 1965 or early 1966. Been bragging about it on other message boards, so I thought I would do it here too! After a little getting to know it session, it will be used for hog/deer hunting next fall.

Congratulations,

You have one of my favorite large caliber pistols. I have owned 3, two were stolen.

I have ground the heal off the grip on all of mine and made 'bird's head grips. To me, it lowers the tendency of the muzzle to rise and brings the recoil back rather than up. This, IMO, makes the gun more controllable and can increase the rate of accurate double action fire.

The .41 Mag is a great cartridge. I find little difference in the impact of a .41 as opposed to a .44 and I have shot several thousand rounds of each. The M58 is noticeably lighter than the M29 and I suspect the M57 due the the unnecessary ejector rod shroud. The new M29s even have more metal added to the end of an already heavy gun.
