Well Chad White and I were invited by are buddy Stan Zwinggi to go down to his place in Doss. he said he had been seen tons of hogs on his trail camera but they were only coming out at night. Well i arrived with my dogs on thursday and stan and i decided we would round all the cattle up and put them in the pens. Chad wasnt coming till friday so i decided to keep the dogs cooped up till chad got in, and didnt want to mess the hog activity up. Well friday morning a huge storm rolled in and it porred for two hours, after the storm past stan and i as well as porter decided to go to breakfast in harper before chad rolled in. As we were rolling out we saw a sounder of hogs two sow and ten shoats, Porter went nuts inside the truck so i told stan to roll down the window. porter shoots out like a rocket and catches a shoat that was about 75 yards off the road. After breakfast chad shows up and we talked about are game plan. Around 10 pm with a light drissel we loaded the dogs up (Concho, Masons boy, sam, Shooter, Rebel, ladou, and new catch dog Max. We headed to feeder that was in a draw, Well what do you know concho opens up folowed by sam and boy, so we let the two out of three catch dogs go shooter and max. we had a hog caught it turned out to be 125 pound boar it was good starter hog for the night. The next spot we turned out the dogs was heck of hike we walked for at least mile and half in the rockiest country i have ever felt under my feet. After about an hour of walkin we here concho bayed up about seven hundred yards away so we run back to the mules to get to the bay faster by this time we all have blisters on are feet. As we get to the bay we here that sam has joined concho while after that boy. they were baying the hog up against this 60 ft cliff that had a spring in it. we new it was good size hog bc the bay dogs were not catchin so we let the catch dogs go. it turned out to be a good boar going 200. the cool thing was is that stan had a trail camera set up at the exact spot were the event happened. It was great weekend with some buddies and dogs.

Nice, I hunt some country round Doss, dont live far from there. Very nice country to hunt and the hogs in that area are new so there doesnt seem to be much pressure on them yet.

when you say new mav do you mean new to the area or new to hunting why i ask we have had hogs on us I am guessing about 20 years know the first one I shot was at 8 and know they were there a couple of years earlyer than that. Know we are a little closer to james river and then the llano and that may have a big part in it to

i have know i idea if these pigs are new to the area either but about five years ago before my buddy Stan got the place he said the place was flown with a hellocopter and the hogs were taken off that is why they only come at night i assume.

Well at my age new doesnt mean the same as it does to some of you young ones.

I worked the Herd ranch at Doss for 5 years that was 20 years ago now that i think about it and on something like 20k acers there wasnt a hog to be found back then.

Now up the road at Helda there was some but not as far south as Doss. The couple ranches I hunt at Doss, they just moved into in the last 2 years.

My wifes family is all from Doss and other than family owned hogs they say there wasnt any until the last few years.

To me that is new although it may not be to others.

You are right "pure" there has been hogs on the James river for years and years, but they are moving out from the river more now, getting futher south. When I speak of Doss I mean that area itself.

Growing up doing this we had hogs on one side of hwy 87 and never on the other for years and years.............then one day they crossed over.
Now they are everywhere in that area round Utopia.
