I travel between Mexia and Hillsboro quite a bit and I have noticed the silage over there.
it is very rank smelling just wonder if anyone has ever tried that and if it worked.

I highly doubt it will work. There's nothing to eat if it's alfalfa or Bermuda..
Maybe they might mess with grains like wheat or oats but it's doubtful and it's to late in the year to have wheat or oats or rye on the ground.

Pigs will eat alfalfa. We used to turn our showpig sows out on alfalfa after the last cutting of the year. They chew on the leaves and spit the stems out. As for silage, I don't know. Silage is usually made from green chop of sudan or other sorghums. If it has some seed left in it, they might tear it up.

On the dairy farm as a kid our silage was layered with spoiled produce so that would certainly get them to check it out...guess it depends on what is in it?

I hunt on a property where they routinely plant sudan. They said the hogs destroyed all but the outer edges of it last year. I don't know if they eat it or if they were just bedding in it because of the shade it provides.

It has a smell to it worse than sour mashed corn so i just couldn't help but to think they would tear into it. just a thought next time i pass through there I will stop and get a barrel of it and test it out

My guess is if it has alcohol in it they will eat it. Pigs like getting drunk.

I just drove by the sileage storage and they are completely out. I'll check back later.

I don't know about silage but I saw today what hogs do to standing corn. Just out of Ector ,Tx the hogs are tearing up a big corn patch.

I live in hillsboro and I trap hogs all over hill county and I have found that they will eat the corn silage but they don't go crazy over it. They are tearing the heck out of the standing corn right now though. This is the hardest time of the year to catch them in my opinion. I mainly snare them around water holes in the summer.
