Got my house broken into yesterday. If you have been considering a gate or security system do it. You cant put a price on your family feeling safe in their own home. Trust me i know.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Ken....We all know that when the kids are out of school for Summer break, this starts again every year.. Mad
Hopefully they'll get caught soon before some angry homeowner...well, you know what I mean...Tragedy is no one's friend.
It sometimes leads to circumstances that serve no good for anyone involved.
Good luck with keeping everything else secure, and talk to all your neighbors, someone may get the message to them to stop before anyone is harmed..
Bill

ADT all the way......

Had it installed even before we moved into the house.

Somewhat expensive, but with all the apps and custom packages, it's cheap compared to the hassle of replacing lost/stolen items.

ADT and others don't help, check out your average response time that someone gets to the house, the thieves are already gone, the sign in the front yard helps more than the security system, I had 3 false alarms, the quickest response was 35 minutes

a big dog helps more than anything, the thieves generally know who has and who doesn't have a dog as they scope out the place before breaking in....

I have security camera's around the house and a DVR to record, system made by Lenox, can look at the images on my phone, some you can setup for motion and will send you notification on your phone

I would have to say that locality and proximity have a lot to do with individual response times.

The best you can hope for with an audible alarm is that it scares them off, because as David said, even a very fast response will seldom be fast enough. My problems seemed to have stopped after they found out my camper was alarmed, and we caught one kid on camera and sent him to juvy for a week. That, and I let the kids and their parents know that now I had proof who was behind my problems, I was probably not going to need to call the sheriff next time.

Extremely bad feeling to be victimized.

A friend from work got broken into last month, they took all his guns and a big water jug full of quarters. All that is bad enough, but as already posted, the feeling of it all, I can't even begin to imagine. Some of his guns were irreplaceable, pass downs from family, he'd just got his son a new 20ga last year and the boy took his 1st deer with it this past season.

Maybe I'm weird, I'm not sure I'd wanna live in a house after it'd been defiled like that. But then again, I know I can't afford to move if it were to happen now.. Fortunately he didn't seem to be AS bothered by that aspect of it, I guess when it happens ya have other things on your mind than that stuff

yea it does suck, i feel for Kenneth, i hate thieves

two of my neighbors got broken in to at the same time, both only in the garage, both houses faced the sides of houses on the end of the block so not a very good visual on them, they broke in after 7:30 AM as that was when the neighbors wife went to work, and they knew it, he is a cop, so really pissed him off, they were gone within a couple of minutes

one thing, for those of you that have garages and you have that rope hanging inside for the release handle, remove it, what they do is push in the top of your garage door, hook the rope with a wire, pop the release, open the door, takes them 5 seconds

Thanks all. Lost a ruger 9mm and my pistol safe, our tv and all my wifes jewelery except
Her wedding ring. Neighbor lost 5k worth of guns same day. I dont get riled up about much but theives really get me going. I am very thankful it could have been worse. But i got a couple leads and got my cameras going. Do all you can to prevent it from happening. The mental part is worse than the stuff being gone.

I think the best deterrent has to be nosey old ladies that stay home all day and know who's supposed to be where. Very Happy

Thanks Ms. X for watching the neighborhood Exclamation

And I do mean that, literally and seriously.

Yup, been there. in a duplex years ago with the other people at home! said they never heard anything. broke through front door. at least they caught the guy and he did 7 years. never got anything back. waited for him with lights out for a couple days-one of us would have walked out. middle class kid that got tied up with other kids.

You will do better with a known alarm co. stickers and signs. You can buy and put in your own pretty cheap and have it call your mobile phone or neighbors along with a loud siren and flashing lights. NO high monitoring fees! Here is a place to start.
