| How do you build a pig pipe barrel from a 25 gallon barrel? |

never built a pig pipe barrel before but i have thought about it. does the barrel you are going to use have a lid that comes off or a bung hole? if it has a bung hole then i had come up with this ideal.
drill a hole in the end of barrel big enough to put a piece of rod/pipe/square tubing or angle iron though with a piece of heavy (1/4 inch) cable attached. the cable should be long enough to stick out of the hole as you put the rod in. the rod is used a backer to keep the cable from being pulled out.
then pull the cable until the rod is up against the bottom of the barrel and then cut some of the cable and clamp on a swivel to attach a longer chain to a T-post.
add hole to the side of the barrel to release corn. 5/8 inch holes seem to be the best size and more is not always better. |

I'd hate to see corn dump out of that. _________________ 2012 Hog Totals=70

These Okie hawgs up here are too stoopid to roll the barrel feeder so I plugged the holes and made mine into a water barrel.
A couple of our members have posted directions on how they built theirs COMPLETE WITH DETAILED PICS. If you are serious take the time to do a good search. iirc Sniper is one member who posted pics.
Strengthening the lid is a very important part of the process.

in theory, the hole is only big enough for the angle/square tubing to fit through. when you pull it back up against the bottom, then the angle/square tubing will cover the hole. water tight?, i doubt it but enough to slow the corn from pouring out. |

I'll throw it out there again for what I believe is the fourth time in 2 years....
I have yet to see a detailed photo laden DIY on how to build a pig barrel on ANY website.
Anyone up to the challenge to do so and post it here?
I know that I would greatly appreciate it as I'm sure many other members would. _________________ 2012 Hog Totals=70

I know I posted a topic how we do it but did not detail it as Toro did as it is so darn easy and simple. We use the free 15 gallon car wash soap barrels, this after using the 55 gallon barrels which did very well too. We use one at every feeder but have stopped using them as I think it makes the hogs more nocturnal. Now I just put blood meal and dog food or bones that will not come out the holes.

I FOUND IT!!! I archived it in MSWord so will use my IPhone to take pics of the pics, put them on PhotoBucket and then transfer them to this forum. I know consider myself vindicated and cannot be called or insinuated that I am a liar.
This is from June 2006. This is what the poster posted:
"Just had to throw that last one in My wife's sister's daughter drew that for me
She used the same scull that I used for my avatar picture.
I did drill more corn holes in the barrels when I put them out. I made four rows of four holes, IIRC
The top picture is missing one piece of angle iron. there are two long ones and two short ones. The short ones fit between the long ones. one short one is for the hinge and the other one is where the cover bolts to. I held them in place one at a time with a C-clamp, drilled a pilot hole and used self tapping sheet metal building screws to screw everything together.
When I got done, I removed the screw that secures the cover and drilled the threads out of the cover. You might want to drill the hole out before
hand as the threads were not the best in the bottom piece of angle iron.
I also added a swivel to the chain later. You can make these work with just a piece of rope or cable attached to something inside the barrel, or even put it through one of the threaded cap plugs that is on there. I always make things fancier that necessary" _________________ 2011 - 13

Sorry for late reply, my home PC GPU is on the fritz.
This is a good DIY for a pig barrel and thanks to VTDW for digging it up.
Looks good, but a little labor intensive for my tastes. And with the cost of metal these days, ouch!
But like I stated, this is a good square 1 starting point.
Now it's piqued my interests and I'll have to see if I can pick up a small barrel to "practice" on. _________________ 2012 Hog Totals=70
