i've been considering the same thing Colby, a few of us have talking about it
I was waiting for ARP to get in his lightweight Wylde chamber barrels, they weight 1lb 9oz, thats pretty light for a barrel. They would also be Melonite treated for longer life, little faster speed.
Then I was going to go with a carbon fiber handguard. Few out there that I really like.
I'll do some searching around for uppers and see whats out there, I really haven't looked as you know me, I usually build my own, and don't think anyone would have one configured the way I like it. |

Thanks David. I was thinking about a hand guard like Frank T got and a 14.5 inch barrel.
You know, for the near future. About 6 month near future _________________ 2011- 055 Confirmed Kills

| oh ok, yea thats the one I told Frank to get, it is the Troy TRX Extreme, I have that one in different lengths on 3 different AR's, they are pretty light if you stick with a shorter one.... |

FRESH! form the scale:
Stripped Upper = 6.90 oz
New Frontier Lower = 27.75 oz
Bolt = 11.30 oz
Charging Handle 1.05 oz
MagPul Forearm 7.75 oz
I let the scale total all but the forearm = 47.05oz
Barrel = 27 oz
Total less forearm = 74.05 oz
With Forearm and a few ounces for ejection port cover, forward assist ... still less than 5 1/2 pounds. With a Leupold lightweight scope still under 6 pounds.
