I gotta wonder if that's a yote / domestic dog mix, or what ?
So, it turns out to be a Wolf..... Shocked

might be a mix like Burt said, looks on the bigger side to me, and coyotes that are in an area with low coyote populations will sometimes breed with dogs...

on the piglets, could be mom is near by or got run over, or shot, or trapped?

Sure looks wolfish to me. Either way, it looks cool and worthy of being mounted, rugged, etc., if you do get a chance to shoot it. However, unlike the little Igloo pig, I would think 1 shot would be sufficent. C'ya Very Happy

Gotta be a cross...looks awful healthy in that first pic and in the second, it looks like a white patch on it's chest.

Either way, it's out in the boonies and up to no good.

I looked at the square shoulders and the heavy body again and you are right, has to be a cross or a dog done wild, he will be shot if seen!

might be frank, I have alot of coyotes near me, and I live on the edge of the city, its amazing how close they would come when I was walking my Rottweiler, of course they were thinking food. One day when he was younger a pup got too close, my Rottweiler went after it, the pup coyote didn't see him coming and my Rottie jumped it, he hates coyotes. Next you you know, two more coyotes are after him, but he knows how to fight, 35 pound coyotes against a 120 pound Rottweiler is pretty fair, he ended up killing what I believe was the alpha male and tore in to the other one which I think was a female, the pup ran off. I ended up having to chase him down as he ran for awhile trying to catch one of those other coyotes.

I had to watch him when we were at hunting camp, if he heard coyotes howl he would try to go after them.

I have a Lab/Akita mix who weighs about 110 pounds and loves to hunt squirrels.

He has a bit of an aggressive streak when challenged and I have no doubt he would give it to a yote or two. He's a good sweet dog but would defend his family well I think.

When I was growing up in Albuquerque coyotes would come down close to the city pretty often and breed with larger dogs, usually German Sheppards or Huskies. My neighbor had one who was a pretty good dog. He looked like a minature German Sheppard.

Have to be careful with yotes and your dogs. A guy over here let his hog dogs out on a yote. The yotes were smart enough to seperate his dogs and jump them one vs the pack. He lost a couple of dogs that day. Also a guy at work had a large rott killed by a pack. One on one or one on two he had the advantage but vs the whole pack he was dead.

yea coyotes will gang up on dogs, thats why when hunting I would call him back in, all except one time didn't know he took for, so I headed in the dark to where I heard the coyotes, had to head out about 1/3 mile, my dog was fighting 4 coyotes, however, he isn't stupid, he was in some brush and wouldn't let the coyotes get behind him, he did get one ear ripped from a bite, his mouth was full of blood, I could see on one of the coyotes it had blood gushing out of its neck, so pretty sure that one was toast....

I read a story about a pack of coyotes taking down a 160 dog, enough of anything they can do it, but like coyotes, dogs also have to be street smart. I have a friend that lives on a farm with 3 cats, all outdoor cats, ton of coyotes around, the coyotes have never been able to get one of those cats, but killed two of his taco dogs, bunch of sheep and chickens....

My Rottie has both ears torn some, one from fighting with the neighbors dog, two from coyote fights.

This is my Rottie when he was about 3 years old, seen a coyote next to where I lived, but I wouldn't let him head out after it:

and of course the neighbor had two guard dogs that they used in their business, they fought with my dog all the time over the wall, my Rottie would swing he head and hook the other dogs, funny thing is, he is dog friendly, but not against any dog that tries to bite him:

It's the "pack" against everyone else.

They'll get a big buck sometimes doing this.

Anything more than 2 on 1 and I think the coyotes probably win.

Interesting, very interesting. Never under estimate a yote's fighting abilities. One on one, if he can flee he will. Get him cornered with no escape route there will be one heck of a fight. Grew up in central Texas during the days when Prarie Wolves were ran by local houndsmen. More then once did I see the houndsmen comming in on Sunday morning with one or two hounds mauled by a wolf the hunters pack had cornered. Hope you can take that one someday Frank. C'ya Smile
