I guess!! All he needs to do is mount some of Kevin's sendero lights and a harpoon gun and winch on that rig and he can kill 'em and reel 'em, and never get his feet dirty. C'ya _________________ Billybird

Looks like you could use that rig to pave roads with hogs too. _________________ Ban guns to eliminate crime ?

| Well we decided we need something to get us out to the duck blinds , because it's to far the walk with decoys and all . So we drug this 1964 diesel out of the feild after 15 at rest with a little cleaning the lines fired right up . We cut the dry rotted tires off and built the new wheels from some scrap iron we had laying around . We built a 10X14 deck over the top of the whole tractor and as you can see we added a center console off an old boat . We extended all the controls thru the deck and started working on the aluminum hand rails today . |

So this is the land version of a pontoon boat? It does look like a steam roller...how fast are you planning to make it? Wonder how the steering's gonna work? Edit: I guess if you kept the tractor split brakes you could steer with them... Wish I lived closer...

| The front tire may or may not get one rib around the middle of it . As far as speed , it is to keep us from having to walk out to the ponds. Just remember it's only as fast and comfortable as driving a tractor across unlevel ground . It will do very well in the mud/water as long as the water keeps the tires clean. The mud doesn't get deep out where we are , just hard to walking . For our next project we have purchased the aluminum for a 8' X 24' flats boat that will carry all our provitions and 2 or 3 4 wheelers out to the camp and when unloaded will float in 3 to 4 " of water . |

Don't forget a good box for your duck dog. And if you don't have a duck dog, you must get one to make your innovation a complete package. C'ya _________________ Billybird

| with those slick tires, rubber? even creeping along how do you keep it from spinning or getting traction? You should just build your blind on top of that thing, never have to leave it! |

Is it a 4x4 Pelon? If it is Frank may have a point. The front wheels will spin if dosn't have some type of traction, like the rear wheels have. And as a former Gulf Coast duck hunter, I agree with Frank, (twice in one post? thats gotta be a record. ), put ya some fold down Camo on it and use it as your hunting blind. Anyway, be sure to video your first trial run. That should be interesting to watch. C'ya _________________ Billybird

2 wheel drive . We don't want to put anything on the front wheels till we see what it needs. We hunt plain old flat marsh land and anything you hunt out of has to be level or as close to the ground as possible . By the time them quackers make it this far their pretty spooky . I don't hunt so it will be my job to take the guys out and come back to start breakfast |

| I was going to say that too, take an old tractor and make it into a marsh buggy, my neighbors would love that thing parked it front of my house. You did great, can't wait to see it finished and in action...Great going!! |

| Thanks everybody , I only helped in the building and design . I thought about hog hunting out of it , but when it rolls over gravel the wheels act like big speakers . Way to loud. |

I think the slicks aren't going to work. The tractor alone is pretty heavy and that deck up top also adds a lot of weight. You have a lot of surface on the wheels which is great but if you hit soft ground or mud it is going to sink slightly then spin, and if stuck in a marsh, well....Anyone have a dozer?
I suggest trying it out on comparable ground to where you are hunting-stuff that is easily accessible to a truck/winch. If you have to wait for a rain, do so.
Welding some angle iron cross-ways in the rear would help with traction but would make it heck on hard ground. Welding it on at an angle \ / would allow angle iron to be on the ground at all times thus improving the ride on hard ground. It should steer just fine with the slick front given the weight distribution.
I also had a thought that some old tracks would work as well. Make stationary your front wheels. Attach the tracks to what you have (would have to shift the front axle forward or back to tighten them) and steer with the brakes just like a dozer. I'm not sure a tractor's brake design is stout enough to make it turn, though. Also, unlike a dozer, because of the open rear differential, when one wheel is stopped the other side speeds up double.
Just thinking out loud here. I do like the concept and would love to see its trial run videoed.
In continuing to think out loud here, a de-commissioned dozer would have been the ultimate platform for such a project. |

I think the rear wheels do have a metal tread already Gerry....so traction should work ok if nothing too serious to drive on
looks pretty cool, will have to report progress and get some video of it driving |

| Yea Gerald , it's got 1 1/2 " angle iron welded in a tractor tread design. We actually have a small dozer , but I think it would be to heavy . We made these tires wide enough to desribute the weight over a larger area. This thing rolls so easy I think we could push start it without any problems. |
