I am planning and have started the ball rolling on this one. I do not know
of anyone with one, but thought I would build one since I built a 338 federal one way before any one offered it. I got to thinking of a real
hog whapper and I came up with a 358 Winchester with a 250 grn Barnes Cool

. I picked up a box of 200 grn Winchester silver tips the other weekend just to look at and said yup Laughing

Reamer is ordered, but it may be some time before my
barrel builder can do it for me. Have to order barrel and then run it through the shop inbetween all else. but, I will post some pics when I get it and some pics of the results Laughing

I had a Contender barrel in .358 once..traded it for a 35Rem because ammo was easier to find at the time..Big Mistake.. Embarassed

I liked the 35Rem OK, but it didn't shoot as well as the .358..That thing was fun to shoot, and accurate to boot!

OAL limited by magazine and action....will the Barnes end up needing to be
seated pretty deep in the case ? I'm thinking it will.

But, Barnes lists 200 and 225 grain versions, not a 250 grain.
TSX shows 200 & 225 grain.

No 225 grain TTSX, only a 200 grain listed.
Unless the Barnes website is not up to date ?

Yes, could be right. I just looked at the options on several different brands
of bullets. I was for sure the 200 grn barnes the 250 I was looking at
probably another brand, have to see what I did with my list Laughing

I found it: hornady inter lock 250, Yup may be too long, there is also
a Nosler Part at 250 grn.

I forgot that the .358 was too long for the AR-15 platform...I did like the 250gr .35 Rem, but there again...Too long Sad

I think a .35cal AR would be cool, but don't want to go to the larger platform.. Rolling Eyes

The .358 Win is a great cartridge. (Of course it is, I own one.) Mine is in a 600 Remington action, 20" Douglas barrel and low-power scope, It also has a limited cartridge length.

The animals I have killed with it have never complained about the length limit imposed by the short 600 action.

A guy I met at the gun club is going to convert one of those A-10's into a .243. I tried to to talk him into 6.8 but he likes the availability of .243, he wants to be able to walk into any store that sells ammo and get his bullets.

Have to admit that the bigger bullets are intriguing Very Happy

The guy didn't want the kick of the .308 and hunts out in West Texas, where it's hard to find 6.8. I tried to talk him into 6.8 and possibly reloading it but he wasn't interested.
