help me here...Why are they using a 1000fps air gun for 1300 rather than a 500 gun going faster?

I think the .300blk will be quiet enough for my needs. It's reported to be quieter than the mp5sd's we have at work and they are quiet. Plus it cycles. Don't think I want to be sooting an airgun at hogs.

Except that I don't think the really powerful air guns are all that quiet? Not that many folks really get paid a lot for hog removal, probably, guides like Randy and Gerald are probably more common. And most subdivisions turn to traps and trappers for hog removal, don't even allow bow hunters to take them out.

Still the large caliber air gun is very interesting, and certainly does not require the paperwork of a suppressor.

Yes, the airguns are expensive.

I thought good rifle bullets were expensive until I priced 'Airgun Pellets' in large calibers.

I have a .22 caliber airgun with muffler. It IS quiet. It is not enough power for pork harvesting. Eventually, I plan on getting a large caliber air-rifle with integral suppressor.

I've been in contact with Mike and he has the suppressor back. It seems to be working now with subsonic ammo and he's hoping to get out hog hunting with it soon.

Not sure I fully captured his sentiment. This is a direct quote, "seems to be properly quiet now with sub sonic rounds" He may be like me, having never shot a suppressed weapon and having no frame of reference other than TVs flawed presentation.

Bill, I got the suppressor back, shot it several times with hand loads I hope were subsonic. Still sounded pretty loud to me, behind the barrel, but my wife was standing about 20 yards to my right and said she only heard a "pop". Shot a couple of "factory" .44 Specials which SHOULD be subsonic, and they were even quieter. Ordered a chronograph, just got it today, so I will be able to check to make sure the rounds ARE subsonic, and if not, adjust them. Definitely better than the first time I shot it, I think it's there now (what George said). Gonna load up some for sure sub sonic loads with 300 gr bullets and give it a try on live targets soon, although maybe not next weekend, as I will be in New Braunfels for the Texas Outdoor Writer's Association Conference. I'll try to get a picture up soon of the weapon, as it is probably a one-of-a-kind. It's not everybody's cup of tea, I'm sure, but i like it, a lot.

Hmmmm. I graduated from high school in 1968, so I probably didn't know him, but I might know some old timers who did. Mostly a good group, but like any other group ...

I should be able to find some place to try my loads on the chrony Sunday, if the rain stops. Supposed to start here pretty soon and last through tomorrow. Seems like only a few weeks ago we were in a drought, huh?

I would be open to a "road trip" to demonstrate the suppressor - ideas?

Well, I had no reference point to judge it against, but at first I was disappointed. Sent it back to Jim, and he "fixed" it. Don't really know what he did, but it's working now. I have been playing with my sub sonic load "recipe", using 300 gn Nosler JHP's and Universal powder, and I think I have a load that will work. It's not totally quiet, of course, but you certainly don't need hearing protection, and the sub sonic loads are much quieter that full power loads. After listening to all those suppressed guns going off on a video I found online of a shoot Jim sponsored at Longview, only a very few were quieter than mine, so I think I am going to be happy. I love the gun, the looks and feel of the way we set it up, and I think accuracy is going to be good. Of course, it's a single shot, but I don't mind that - it's what I chose and what I wanted for my use.

It'll be worth the wait when you get it...in fact I got to use mine last night @ 11:15pm.
I had just started getting ready for bed when the overpowering scent of "Pepe la Phew" began saturating the house.. Mad

I have an agreement with a family of skunks that have raised several litters under my house, that entails a "NO SPRAYING" rule..
This has worked for at least 5ys now, but occasionally when Mom is in heat a fight will "erupt" between the Patriarch of the family and a traveling bachelor.. Shocked

Being there is a No Tolerance policy, I slipped out the back door and made my way around to the front porch and dispatched the intruder with 3 rounds from my suppressed Walther P-22
I was able to return to my newly fumigated room, and finally get to sleep...all without waking any neighbors including the Game Warden and her Retired FBI significant other whose bedroom window was approximately 65yd from the shooting gallery..... Laughing

Good luck. I think it was almost exactly 6 months before I got mine back. Local Mom* Pop gun shop near me had a newspaper ad last week saying they are now selling suppressors and short barreled rifles. Ad says, "If you can legally own a handgun, you can easily qualify for either of these weapons". Yeah, except for a few things NOT required for a handgun, like the background check, sheriff's signature and fingerprints, $200 fee, and 6 months or longer wait.
