What quick relase weapon mount do y'all use for a pvs14? And what helmet mount do y'all also use??
Thanks _________________ 2011- 055 Confirmed Kills

David that is the standard military package. The weapon rail mount is not a quick disconnect and the halo head mount is nicknamed the head crusher for a reason. _________________ 2010 568 dead hogs/2011 224 dead hogs

copy that Huey, so there is obviously better ways....
so what you recommend is what you linked above, different/better helmet mount and quick release rail mount?
also, is one helmet better than another? |

I had the standard weapon mount and the halo mount I don't use them anymore. I just use a Tony hawk skateboard helmet I bought at walmart for $15. Eventually I will get a helmet with a real chin strap but the other has worked well. _________________ 2010 568 dead hogs/2011 224 dead hogs

I'm going to get the shroud and the flip up thing y'all listed.
Does it attach on to the 14 or do I have to buy another mount?
Also is there another quick release that I mount on the rifle besides that one for 200 from nitehog?? _________________ 2011- 055 Confirmed Kills

Yes I left one part out. The Rhino mount (the flip up thing) was originaly designed for 7b's. So if you attach 14's directly to the rhino mount the eye peice will be directly over the bridge of your nose when u bring it down. To remedy this, you have get a j-arm which attaches to the 14's which is then attached to the rhino mount which is cliped into the rhino mount plate which is screwed into your helmet. I know this sounds complicated but its very simple once you have the parts in front of you.
Here is what the j arm looks like:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=pvs+14+j+arm
I did some looking around and prices are all over the place. If you could get to a surplus store near an army base i am sure they will have a ton of them for sale. If you are not close to one, do a google search for surplus stores around fort hood, I am sure they would be willing to do a deal over the phone. If I wasnt deployed I would look around for ya
I looked at the hemet you linked, it looks like it will work really well. _________________ One lesson I learned in Korea. Pigs cannot withstand a 120mm SABOT round |

The first link I put up there is the mount you screw into the helmet it will not wobble. I got a Mitch with j arm complete package off eBay. It just clamps into the vas mount. The j arm just screws into the 14 _________________ 2010 568 dead hogs/2011 224 dead hogs

Could also just get the PVS-14, and a magnifier..Maybe even upgrade the version of PVS, and just use as a monocular on a strap around the neck for stalking, and when close, just let it hang, or slip inside the jacket, raise the rifle with it's dedicated NVD, and "Boom-Boom-Boom"
That's if you keep the N-550..if not, then do as you've planned..

Hopefully yours will get back as fast as mine did...6 days, and it was a new one, not the one I sent! I still like them, especially with the recording capability.. Keep us up to date on the progress...I'm also trying to budget in a NV Monocular, I may have just gotten an invitation on 1K acres just 4 miles form home...Lots of pigs!

The QD may come with the NV, mine did, if you are using the eotech during daylight hours you may need the magnifier but probably not, the NV magnifier is great to have to amplify the ambient light and to bring things closer into view. Of course if you are selling your Pulsar you can pay for much of this equipment with that money. _________________ 2012- 11 pigs Down.

See the only reason I want to get rid of the pulsar is because I hunt by driving or walking. It's not bad if your hunting in a stand over a feeder but the weight and the way I hunt it just doesn't work for me.. I feel like I miss a lot of hogs due to this.
I'd have to sell the pulsar to pay for some of this. _________________ 2011- 055 Confirmed Kills

That's completely understandable, as I'm a retiree that didn't plan for his future, and lives off his VA Pension of less than 1K per month...If I didn't have lots of "stuff" accumulated over the years, equipment left from 35yrs as a locksmith to sell, and the occasional odd job I do for friends, believe me...I wouldn't own squat!...
I'm sure whatever path you choose will work out for you, but I really do like the N-550's and will try to hang on to mine, and possibly add another in the future if finances allow!

not a bad idea, PVS14 on left eye, shoot with Pulsar on the right, that way can record the action |

I agree, I've just got to replace my 5x monocular with one in 1x so I can see where I'm walking, then I'm set to go! I hope the guy I'm meeting with this week is impressed with my presentation, as it may lead to over 10K acres of land within a 30 min radius of my home to hunt just for eradication purposes...I'm pumped! I've got a tentative go ahead on the addition to my night vision arsenal, but really don't want to touch my savings again for any new toys...Now I just need to sell a 99 4wd Suburban with a 454 and a 1988 Big Block Chev Pro Street Truck, and all my wishes would become reality...Anyone got an extra 20k laying around that needs a couple of fine examples of American Muscle Cars, (Trucks)??

| A differing opinion: I have a PT helmet with a Norotos rhino arm, and I hate wearing it. It's fine for short periods of time or for driving around in the Polaris, but it sees very little use. I'm much more likely to walk around with the monocular in one hand, scout around from time to time, and keep walking. I think the key to using the monocular is having a good quality mount so that you can quickly transition from hand held to gun. I should probably just sell the helmet, but I can't get myself to do it. |
