O.K. guys, I know turkeys are a far cry from the fun of a good hog hunt, but after seeing so many turkeys where I hog hunt I thought that I would devote a little time to them. On my first turkey hunt Saturday morning I walked right into where they were gobbling their heads off before daylight. After they left the roost I called twice and three gobblers came right to me. Since I was meat hunting I took the lead one which was a good sized jake. Looks like he will eat just fine when I get the time to smoke him on the grill. Very Happy . Oh yeah after I shot the turkey he flopped around on the ground for nearly a minute. Before he stopped moving a buzzard flew up over him watching. He sat in the tree until I went to claim my bird before he did. Mad

I overshot a turkey one time 30 years ago.I blew one side of his breast off,not leaving much to smoke as I usually did.So I took the other breast and chicken fried it--- wonderful. As good as anything I have ever eaten.Congradulations on getting the bird.Chuck

I'm an avid turkey hunter and have noticed a correlation between number of hogs equals less turkey.

5 years ago I was seeing flocks of 3-4 dozen birds and little hog activity.

Now I'm seeing lots of hogs and the largest flock of turkey at 13.

This year has been a complete bust as far as turkey go, but lots of hogs hunted and on camera.

Congrats on getting your turkey. They don't alway's come that easy. I'm headed out this weekend to try and get my son on a bird. Hopefully, we'll have some luck like you did.

Congrats on the turkey, they're hard to get, I remeber when I was a kid I chased one around all day with a 22. That's also the day I learned they could fly Laughing

Thanks,
I'll keep the chicken fried in mind too. I just hope that my beginners luck doesn't wear off. Smile
