|
|
I decided to built the ultimate night hunting vehicle, so I mounted a FLIR thermal camera to my Polaris Ranger. This camera system is very small, and I can easily use it on my truck when I am not hunting. A word of warning! Once you use a FLIR camera at night, you wont ever go night hunting without it!
Here is a video of the FLIR in action. I baited for hogs, and this one deer was more interested in eating that us. I wanted him out of the area because I kept getting picture updates from the game camera. The deer made for some good video...

A friend was using a hand held FLIR and I had the FLIR mounted to the Ranger. No moon, pitch dark, and even when we knew where the rabbits were, we couldnt see them lying in the grass with the PVS-14. This camera can find field mice in the grass...

Sorry I dont have hog video. When I see those I have a gun in my hand instead of a video camera. I should have the high power LED lights up and running in a few days
Here is a pic of the setup

Sweet!
How about a little more info on the FLIR?
Such as model number, cost, where you bought it, etc.

The guy in the videos with me is a dealer for FLIR. If you want one, send me a PM with your phone number.
Here is information on the FLIR and the costs. ( Cut and paste is a wonderful thing. )
FLIR PathfindIR LE Kit. $3225.00 + $50.00 shipping (thats what FLIR charges)
This kit is a complete system with a 7 inch waterproof monitor, camera, cables and mounting bracket for the camera. It includes everything you need. I have used this kit on my Polaris Ranger, my truck, and my motorcycle. Its very easy to transfer from vehicle to vehicle.
Here are prices and details on the hand held version
FLIR H Series hand held $4699.00 + $50.00 shipping
320 X 240 thermal inaging core. This hand held has a narrower field of view than the pathfindIR system, but is great for walking through the brush, or general surveillance of an area.
Features of FLIR Systems Inc. HS324 Patrol 19 mm Thermal Device:Shuttered Eyepiece: Keeps light from coming out of the viewfinder, helping the operator to stay covert.
Multiple lens options available: Choose the 19mm lens with 24 degree field of view (and its optional 2x optical extender).
Rugged design: All-weather design is built to withstand the demands of day-in, day-out law enforcement operations. It's even submersible.
Hot Shoe Attachment: The included "hot shoe" attachment provides power-in and RCA composite video-out connections while maintaining the camera's tripod mounting capability.
Two-sided Hand Strap: Accommodates both left-handed and right-handed users.
Battery Compartment: Four rechargeable AA NiMH batteries are good for more than six hours of continuous operation. H-Series also runs on standard non-rechargeable alkaline and Lithium Ion AA batteries.
Power: 6+ Hours of Operation / 5+ Days in Standby / Instant-On from Standby
Zoom: 2X Electronic Zoom
Brightness: Adjusts 8 Levels of Screen Brightness
Polarity: Switches between white-hot and black-hot display modes
Is that enough info

I'm sure you could hook that to an external monitor and mount that on your Polaris and have a 15 screen for viewing. Bringing you expanded HD to hog hunting.
That's very cool, i can see why you'd never leave home w/o it. |

| What was the longest range that you could actually see the rabbits and deer? I am interested in one if it will work out to 100 yards. |

Even 300 yards isnt a problem. Obviously, the larger the animal the farther out it will be visible. This same system when used in an automotive application, is rated at 1000 feet of forward visibility.
Here is a video of a deer that is 100 yards away. I had the screen covered with a red plastic cover to cut down on the brightness. Hogs and deer cant be missed at 100 yards when they are on the screen. They show up great!
