my helper said he had bought a 9 mm that took a special shorter round. he said he had fired it with the longer ammo had no problem. he got the shorter round and now the gun jams and won't pick up the next round, he can't get the slide off to try and clean it. can anyone give a idea of whats wrong? _________________ A bad day huntin with family is better than a good day at work |

Sounds like the ammo he thinks is the right stuff might NOT be the right
stuff. Seems odd the supposedly wrong stuff worked, and the right stuff
did not.....
Any markings as to caliber on the gun ?
Maybe a photo of the gun ?
And, if he did manage to fire the wrong ammo, he may well have
broke it. _________________ The possibilities for disaster boggle the mind. |

you are right
9x18 or "9mm Makarov"
shorter than a standard 9mm round |

That's a lot like me asking why my truck won't run, and nobody has
seen it....no way to really know.
BUT, if 9 mm Luger ammo actually got fired in it, one guess would be that
the slide can no longer separate from the barrel, because the barrel
has been bulged from excessive pressure.
9 mm Luger ammo generates about twice the pressure of .380 Auto ammo -
when fired in a gun designed for it. If you manage to fire it in a .380, the
bullet and part of the case will have to have been shoved farther up the
barrel than the design calls for. This would very likely cause even higher
than normal pressures.
This is just a guess as to what happened, since none of us has seen
the gun. _________________ The possibilities for disaster boggle the mind. |
