I am new to the Iowa park area. My name is clint Downs and I am 28 years old. I am in the airforce and I'm a jet engine instructor. I have been a hunter all my life. I grew up in ky hunting whitetails and just about anything. Was stationed in Idaho for six years and hunted mulies, elk, bear, and cougar. I just love to hunt but here in Texas it seems as if there is no hunting uess yu know someone. I would love to hunt some hogs. I've always wanted to but like I said. I don't know where to go.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks to all that can help.

Welcome Clint. Thank you for your service. I'll make you the same offer I did the last serviceman who posted from that area. If you can make the drive down to Abilene I'll be happy to take to take you out to our lease by Cross Plains. I had planned to go this weekend but the kids are doing something at church up in Oklahoma this Sunday and we need to go up and be grandparents. Not sure when the next try will be, maybe the next week. Hogcaller and I tried to get Joe from the air base out hunting a couple months ago and it never worked out. I hope all is well with him.

I'd like to go with Randy too but haven't gotten it done.

George

First, thank you for your service.

Second, I've lived in Texas all my life, and I had to look up Iowa Park to find out just where the heck it is! You're a long ways from me, and certainly a long ways from Randy.

I don't know if this will be useful to you, but there are about a million acres of public land in Texas that is only accessible to hunting if you buy the annual permit. Also, Texas gives active duty military FREE hunting licenses, but I'm not sure about the permit. It usually goes for $48. If you buy the permit, you get a map to the public lands and instructions as to what the rules are to hunt there.

Maybe someone else can weigh in here with an opinion. I'm not too familiar with these areas myself, although I do know about two between Palestine and Corsicana that are pretty good hunting.

Here's a link to the TPWD program details.

I want to thank everyone for there responses. And for the ones that say thanks for your service. It's nothing, I am just doing my job, that's all I can do. I looked into the permit deal and it seems as ifthey will give you no information whatsoever until you purchase the $48 permit. Who's to say there is any government land around me if I do buy the per
it. Well I guess it's a gamble right. I'll be back when I have a little bit more time. As you can see it is around 3:40 am. Gotta go in and do some PT with the students, fun fun.

Iowa Park is a suburb of Wichita Falls.

Also, how do you get the map? I haven't been able to find it on their web site.

Hey Clint I go to the LBJ National Grasslands witch is near Alford along 287. I go in October for bow deer season.
I think there are probably some hogs out there since my bro said he herd some last year. I'm thinking of heading out there this weekend to see if the spot where I set up camp at with a friend is still good, and do some possible scouting. One rule I do know about public land hunting is you can't use bait but don't know about attractant.

You can’t get any better than that! Someone who lives in the same location as you and offers to take you along for a hunt or helps you get started. That is a sign of a real sportsman and the making of a true friendship.

Here is a link to all of TPW's public hunting maps. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/table_contents/

Just click on the links to the maps you want. Some of the maps are aerial views, and all are printable.
