Alright there's a storm coming in tomorrow night and I want to set some trout lines at the creek for some yellow cats. I have all the trout lines ready. I just was wonder if yall had any good tips on where to set them and stuff. I plan on using live perch and crawfish _________________ CT |

I'm not sure what a trout line is. Never heard that term before. But, I've been catching yellow's on the river for years. Around my neck of the woods we call them op. Perch is the best bait. I set what we call bank lines. Basically tied to the bank one something with some spring to it, and a big weight out in the water.
What kind of creek? How much current? What is the depth variation? _________________ I live back in the woods you see,

OH!!! You meant a trotline! I'm sorry I didn't catch on sooner. Like Todd Barnes said, look for sandy bottom with moving water. Also, look for moving water next to still water. Yellows like to lie still among the roots and let the current bring the food to them. _________________ I live back in the woods you see,

During the spring, when its not really hot, I would set some trotlines out in the flats and do pretty good in the shallow water. But they do better before it gets hot cause the cats can die real quick if the lines arent checked often, like every 4 hours or so when its real, real hot. Also, leaving them in shallow water , at least around here, will catch a lot more alligator gar than cats at times.
During the summer, I would place my lines in a channel to go from shallow to deep. Works great. Moving/running water is always a plus.
Good luck! _________________ Just my 2 cents worth with a nickel rebate.

Lets go get you one then...
I have a spot at Belton lake that I have taken several over 6' and possiblly 50-60 lbs.
Lots of fun and a pretty aggressive fight as well.

And man they sure are some mean critters we were fishing of a dock one time and a gar had been out of the water for over an hour and it was still snaping at everyone around it. _________________ God Bless Our Troops!!!!! |
