Oh I know skip thats how a lot of the hunters here in florida hunt. Michelle Mears coined the term enduro dogs. All of her dogs were straight catch, she had foundation curs, bulldog and dogo crosses, no bark in her dogs at all, they would wind from the buggy, go the distance and you just listened to the pigs squeal. A lot of the florida curs are straight catch and a lot of people hunt with bird/bull crosses that are straight catch. I had a lab/bulldog cross that was as good as they get and would shut one down. However, we don't have the old style bull terriers like you guys and that bull arab is a nice looking breed, I would like to get a few over here. Australia looks like it has got to be full of big boar hogs. I don't care too much for those big crocs you've got though. I know you've got some mighty fine looking sheilas over there too.

the rcds are effective but I prefer the bay. I like dogs that are super strike dogs and need no help getting deep into the woods and finding a boar. I like that dog to bay or bail the hog and not catch it until I get there. This gives me time to get to the dog and I don't have to be in a hurry. I can turn my catchdog in when I get to the bay. To me its a lot more fun and I like the finesse of the dog that can stop one and keep it bayed for as long as it takes for me to get there. I do believe that straight catch is more effective but its not the way I like to hunt. Sometimes it may take me an hour to get to the dog. As far as getting hurt or cut I believe whether bailing or lugging its all about catching or baying style and I've seen both types always get cut or hardly ever get cut depending on how the dog did its job. When the bay happens I'm usually at my truck on the road and I'll get a drink, eat a snack, get all my gear to go in with, mark the truck with the gps, etc, and take my time going to the bay with the catchdog. Its just a lot more enjoyable hunt for me. I don't want to have to race to a dog through the woods.

Some times the reason for RCDs is there are hogs that are so dog smart if they hear a noise they run. Alot of these hogs will run if they hear another dog coming thru the brush... it is that bad. So by having dogs that are there with the strike dog when it strikes you can eliminate some of that.

I totally agree, with you. I would much rather have dogs that bay seperate from dogs that catch where you can take your time as you described... that is not always an option though. Very Happy

I enjoy watching a good bay and I do expect my strike dogs to hold a boar for as long as it takes. But theres no dought that you will catch many more of the dog smart runners using rcds.

though i enjoy watching a bay also I also can see where a straight catch pack can work out for you. Know a Guy that has a a couple of straight catch strke dogs, he hardly ever gets outrun. though his dogs get cut a good bit
