I've seen postings here from time to time asking about a trigger for the door of your hog trap. I stumbled onto something that works real good, is real simple to rig up and use, is cheap, and, with a little thought, will work on any kind of a door. My trap had a pin that had to be pulled out of a hole in the trap frame to drop the door. Well, it's several years old and the pin and hole got rusty and didn't work well anymore. I had to improvise. I'm a bowhunter and had a couple of old archery releases in my tacklebox and I thought I could make a trigger out of one of them. I used a small hose clamp to attach the release to the side of the trap. I tied a piece of black 100 lb. test nylon string to the door, attached my spring, pulled the door open the desired amount, made a loop in the end of the string and put it in the jaws of the release. Almost any release will hold 60 -80 lbs. of pressure. Then I tied a piece of the same black string to one side of the trap about 6 inches off the ground, ran it across to the other side and through the wire, up to the top of the trap and made another loop that fit over the release trigger. It takes less than one ounce of pressure on the trip string to release the door. It works better than anything I've ever used. I'm starting to get tired of cleaning hogs. If you have any questions, PM me.
