I have never seen so many dove in my entire life. It was amazing.
There was NO swine flu! There were NO drug cartel problems! The cost was very reasonable and my shoulder is just fine.
I can't wait to go back next year. |

Really, I need to think about going down there to do that hunt at least once. Did you take your own gun? I've heard taking the firearms across the border is problematic?

You mind sharing or Pm'ing the outfitter info? Been thinking of doing something like that for the last few years. _________________ VP - Headache Delivery |

I'd like to know this also. Problematic is an understatement from one story I know about. _________________ NRA LIFE MEMBER

I was there a couple weeks ago ( www.ranchocaracol.com ) for my annual hunt. It is insane to even try to bring your own gun across...way too much red tape.
There's 52 in that pile, in 2 hours. They were flying very high...full choke action.

How many can you bring back across to Texas? The last I heard was 45/hunter, but that may have changed by now.
I heard of that outfitter and guide service, top-notch, but need to save up a little money though. |

I was able to bring back 90, so 45/day would be accurate. I think it was 60 last year? A friend of mine's boss went dove hunting with 7 other guys on the Pacific side a few weeks ago... 8 men shot about 10,000 birds. One shooter shot 28 boxes (nearly 3 cases) in one hunt.

That's 700 rounds.....
I wonder if this level of body counts are sustainable long term myself.
Assuming those birds migrated from up here, it seems to
make bag limits up here a joke.
Then again, maybe the birds are all "local" ?
Also, assuming only 1 ounce loads, 700 rounds comes out
to 43 pounds, 11.99 ounces of lead put out by that one guy
that one hunt. _________________ Onward Through The Hog ! |

Almost enough to make a barrel turn red.
I think that a lot of doves in central/south america are local birds and are considered varmints/pests that need to be controlled. |

| I was saving up for an Argentina hunt, but heard you are not allowed to bring any birds back with you, soooooooooooooooooo, I reckon I just may have to splurge on a hunt there for 2-3 days and bring back enough to make the price worth it. You can't take the money with you when you die, might as well spend it on something you love doing and since I'm not married and no kids, looks like a LOT of hunting, fishing & trapping. |
